Centre Facts
Bedford School was founded in 1552 during the reign of Edward VI, thanks to the generosity of Sir William and Dame Alice Harpur, whose gift helped establish what became the Harpur Trust. Over its 475-year history, the school has grown and evolved, moving to its current site in 1891, becoming officially known as Bedford School in 1917, and establishing its Preparatory School in 1946. Despite challenges such as a major fire in 1979, the school has continued to develop, investing in modern facilities, scholarships, academic education and pastoral care.
